Cruise port transfers in DundeeThe usual route is the A90 and M90 south, crossing the Forth by the Queensferry Crossing. It is a straightforward run outside the peaks, but the approach to Edinburgh is slow on weekday mornings. We time departures to avoid the worst, and for an Edinburgh Airport connection we plan to arrive with proper margin for check-in. We also check road conditions on the day, since a closure on the bridge approach can change the best route entirely.
Glasgow is reached by the M90 to Perth and the A9 and M9 toward Stirling, then the M80 or M8 into the city. It takes about an hour and a half in normal conditions. Roadworks around Stirling and Cumbernauld have a way of appearing without notice, so the chauffeur checks live conditions before setting off. If you are connecting to Glasgow Airport, we include the extra margin that Renfrew and the M8 sometimes demand.
The A90 runs along the coast past Montrose to Stonehaven and Aberdeen. For energy-sector visitors the destination is often an office near the harbour or Aberdeen Airport. Beyond Aberdeen, runs towards Speyside or Deeside are possible as fixed-fare day trips, with the return planned for daylight where we can. Weather on the coast road can turn quickly, and a full-size SUV copes well with spray and crosswinds.
The A9 north from Perth opens up Pitlochry, Blair Atholl and the Cairngorms, and Dundee is closer to these than most people realise. In winter the high ground can close or slow down quickly. A larger SUV with an experienced driver is the sensible choice, and we are open about alternatives if conditions are poor. We will advise honestly when a day is better postponed than attempted.
From November to February the light fails by mid-afternoon, and rain or ice on the A90 slows the run to Aberdeen or Perth. We take that into account when we propose a departure time and advise an earlier start if you need to arrive before dark. The fare stays the same however long the weather makes the road. If conditions change after departure, the chauffeur calls the desk and we adjust without drama.
