Tokyo is a city of many centres, linked by a double-decker web of Shuto expressways that nobody navigates well on the first visit. The airports are far apart in effort: Haneda is about 40 minutes from the middle of town, Narita 90. Haneda (HND) is the closer airport, roughly 40 minutes to central Tokyo by expressway. Narita (NRT) sits in Chiba and takes about 1 hour 30 minutes. If you are choosing flights, the extra distance is worth weighing, and a car removes the train changes with luggage. Your chauffeur meets you in arrivals with a name board, and the expressway tolls and airport parking are inside the fixed fare.
Marunouchi and Otemachi, beside Tokyo Station and the Imperial Palace moat, hold the head offices of banks, trading houses and insurers. Streets are orderly, but drop zones are specific and the lobbies often have their own car entrances. Chauffeurs know which door to use for which tower, and arrive a few minutes early rather than late. Trains stop around midnight, which is when the demand for a booked car peaks.
Roppongi Hills, Midtown and the Akasaka-Toranomon corridor combine offices, hotels and embassies. Congestion builds in the evenings around Roppongi crossing, so we plan pickups on side streets with room to stop. For events at the National Art Center or the hotels nearby, we agree the pickup lane in advance.
Tokyo Big Sight at Ariake hosts major trade shows and conventions, and queues for the Rainbow Bridge approach and the bayside routes build before and after the day. Delegations are better moved in staged SUVs than on a single shuttle. The same bay area includes Odaiba and the International Cruise Terminal at Aomi. Hotels near Odaiba and Ariake also benefit from a car, since the rail links there are slower than the map suggests and late shows end well after the trains thin out.
Shibuya Scramble and Shinjuku's Kabukicho are 20 to 30 minutes apart on a good night and longer on a Friday. We agree pickups at spots a car can actually stop, and brief you on where to find the chauffeur. After the last trains, a booked SUV is the calmest way home.
Yokohama is about an hour away, and Osanbashi pier handles cruise calls there. Hakone is around 2 hours, with winding roads into the hills, a favourite with guests combining onsen stays and Mount Fuji views. Weather and weekend traffic on the routes out of the city matter, so we leave margin for both. On Fridays and before national holidays, add margin to every expressway journey. Kamakura, Nikko and Karuizawa are also possible on request.
