Zurich has no seaport. The boats on Lake Zurich are day excursions, not ocean cruises, and the nearest river-cruise embarkation is in Basel, about an hour away. Guests joining Mediterranean sailings travel to Genoa or Venice, several hours south. We time the pickup to your check-in window and take you from Zurich Airport or a hotel directly to the gangway. At the end of the cruise we reverse the trip to the airport, with margin for a late docking, which is common after a week on the river. The Kleinhueningen quays are in the northern harbour area, so the last few minutes of the drive run through an industrial zone before the river opens up.
Genoa is the closest major sea port that Zurich guests use, reached via the Gotthard route and Milan, and the drive is long. Venice and Savona are alternatives. We plan overnight stops where required, with a hotel in Lugano or Como breaking the journey, and we agree the boarding deadline with you before suggesting a departure time. Ports in northern Italy also have security checks that can take time, so we aim for an early arrival.
For guests who want a day on the water, boats leave from Buerkliplatz and the Bellevue area and call at villages along both shores. We drop you at the pier and collect you at the end, or at one of the lakeside villages. It is a gentle half day that suits a long layover or a quiet Sunday. Stops at the Fraumuenster or the Lindenhof are possible between pier trips if your layover is long.
Many guests spend a night in Zurich before or after a cruise. We coordinate flights, hotel transfers and the long road leg to the port, and can arrange for luggage to travel with you in the SUV so that the final leg is light.
