Occasions and events in AspenHighway 82 follows the valley to Glenwood Springs, about forty miles, where it meets I-70. Glenwood Canyon is stunning but prone to closures from rockfall or mudslides in summer. We check the road before leaving and know the detours, which are long, and we tell you early if a closure changes the plan.
Vail is around two hours from Aspen via Glenwood and I-70 and is a common ski-resort pairing. Business trips and ski days across the two valleys are easy with a chauffeur who knows the exits. Winter conditions on Vail Pass in particular matter for those continuing to Denver.
The drive to Denver is four hours on a clear day, with the Eisenhower Tunnel and Vail Pass as obstacles. Weekend ski traffic eastbound on Sunday afternoons is notorious, and we recommend a morning or late evening departure. Meetings in Denver are workable as a day trip if the weather allows.
Independence Pass is closed in winter. When it is open in summer, a drive over to Leadville and Buena Vista offers spectacular views. Telluride and the San Juan range lie farther south, and Grand Junction is two and a half hours west. We price each route with the realistic time and your preferred stops.
Mountain driving in winter calls for patience. We use winter tyres, drive to conditions and delay departures when a storm is expected. The fixed fare does not change if safety requires us to wait, and the desk keeps you informed throughout.
