Fashion Week, Salone del Mobile and the Rho fairs stack up through the year, Area C and Area B restrict the centre, and two very different airports serve the city. Malpensa is about 50 kilometres north-west of the city and a drive of roughly 50 minutes, longer on the A8 at rush hour. Linate is only a few kilometres east of the Duomo and takes 20 minutes or so. Your chauffeur meets you at the right terminal, tracks the flight and chooses between the motorway and the Tangenziale depending on live conditions. Business jets and charter flights are handled at either field.
Milan restricts vehicle access to the central Cerchia dei Bastioni through Area C, with cameras reading plates, and applies emission limits across most of the city in Area B. Hotels in the Quadrilatero della Moda have permits that vary by property. We check each hotel's arrangements in advance and make sure your booking never collects a fine. The permit rules differ for every hotel, so we ask for the property's own confirmation instead of assuming the answer from the address.
The business district has moved north and west, to the glass towers of Porta Nuova around Piazza Gae Aulenti and to CityLife beside the Tre Torri. Banks, funds and consultancies are here, along with the trade bodies in the older centre. Fashion Week in February and September fills the hotels near Via Montenapoleone and the show venues in Porta Romana and Tortona. Salone del Mobile in April moves the focus to Fiera Milano Rho, and the Fuorisalone events spread across the city. On those weeks a Rho run is far longer than the map suggests, and we plan timings and entrances with you well ahead. Check-in times for show invitations are strict, so we leave the hotel earlier than the map suggests and use the ring road when the Rho motorway is slow.
Match nights at San Siro and concerts at the stadium close the roads in the western neighbourhoods. Teatro alla Scala on Via Filodrammatici is easy to reach and hard to park near. For evenings, your driver waits at an agreed spot and appears at the door when you call, avoiding the post-event queue. On match nights the stadium operator closes several streets in the San Siro district, and we choose a collection point beyond the cordon.
Lake Como is about an hour, Lugano an hour across the Swiss border, Turin about an hour and three quarters and Genoa about the same.
