Intercity & Long Distance · Reykjavík

Intercity & Long Distance in Reykjavík, priced up front

Iceland has few cities, so intercity travel here means long rural roads with few services and changeable weather. From Reykjavík, Vík on the south coast is about two and a half hours away, the Golden Circle needs six hours with stops and Keflavík is fifty minutes. We price each run as one fixed fare with a vetted chauffeur and studded winter tyres in season.

Business district

Working days in Reykjavík

Our chauffeurs work daily around the Reykjavík city centre and Borgartún, with regular runs to Hallgrímskirkja, the Blue Lagoon, the Golden Circle.

Icelandic weather closes roads at short notice; our SUVs run studded winter tyres and chauffeurs check the Vegagerðin road service before every departure.

Corporate travel in Reykjavík

The south coast to Vík

Route 1 runs east past Hveragerði and Selfoss, then along the south coast, with Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss beside the road and Reynisfjara black beach near Vík. The drive takes about two and a half hours one way without stops. In winter, ice and wind make stops brief, and the chauffeur checks Vegagerðin before leaving.

Golden Circle by SUV

The classic loop covers Þingvellir National Park, the Geysir geothermal area and Gullfoss waterfall, and takes around six hours. Parking at each site is straightforward for a car and trickier for tour coaches. The chauffeur lets you set the pace and can add Kerið crater or a farm café on the route. In winter the loop is best started at first light, because the light fails by mid-afternoon and the return along Route 36 and Route 1 is easier in daylight.

Why you cannot drive on highland roads

The interior F-roads are closed for most of the year and need specialised vehicles and permits in the summer, so ordinary road transfers do not include them. We stay on public roads and tell you honestly where a destination is outside our scope.

Winter planning

From October to April, daylight is short, winds can strike without notice and roads can close. The chauffeur checks forecasts and closure maps and may suggest an earlier start or a different day. This is not caution for its own sake; it is how trips here are completed safely.

One-way or return

You can book a single drop at a destination, such as a hotel in Vík, or a return the same day. If you stay overnight, we agree a pickup time for the next day in advance. The price is fixed for the arrangement.

FAQ

Intercity & Long Distance in Reykjavík — questions

How long does it take to drive from Reykjavík to Vík?

About two and a half hours one way without stops. Winter weather and sightseeing at waterfalls can make the day longer, which we plan for.

Can you do the Golden Circle as a private transfer?

Yes. The loop takes roughly six hours including stops at Þingvellir, Geysir and Gullfoss, and we agree a flexible schedule with you in advance.

Do you drive on highland F-roads?

No. We keep to public roads. Highland tracks need specialised vehicles and are closed for much of the year, and we will tell you when a destination lies beyond our scope.

What if the road is closed on the day?

The chauffeur checks the road service before leaving. If a closure affects the plan, we propose another route or a different day, and the desk keeps you informed.

Is a one-way drop in Vík possible?

Yes. We drive you to your hotel or meeting point and, if needed, arrange the return journey for a later date at a fixed price.
